Biden Administration Forgives Student Debt for 55,000 Public Service Workers
Investing.com -- The Biden administration announced today that the student debt of an additional 55,000 public service workers has been canceled. With this latest move, the number of individuals approved for student debt relief under President Joe Biden's administration has reached approximately 5 million.
Among the public service workers approved for debt relief are teachers, nurses, military personnel, law enforcement officers, and others who have dedicated their lives to serving the community. According to the administration, these workers are now receiving the debt relief they are entitled to under the law.
Over the past four years, the administration has taken significant steps for students and borrowers. These include providing the largest increase in the maximum Pell Grant award in more than a decade, holding accountable institutions that exploit students, and repairing broken student loan programs such as Public Service Loan Forgiveness and Income-Driven Repayment.
"From the first day of my administration, I vowed to ensure that higher education is a ticket to the middle class and not a barrier to opportunity," Biden said in a statement. "Thanks to our actions, millions of people across the country now have the breathing room to start businesses, save for retirement, and realize life plans they had to postpone due to the burden of student loan debt."
