US Asks Nvidia to Investigate Chip Exports to China
According to reports, five different individuals involved in the smuggling of Nvidia chips have claimed that they managed to avoid detection during recent audits conducted by Super Micro. In a response sent via email, a Nvidia spokesperson stated, “We insist that our customers and partners strictly adhere to all export control restrictions. Unauthorized diversion of previously owned products, including resale in the gray market, is not a benefit to our business but rather a burden.”
The report, citing a source close to Super Micro, indicated that some customers replicated the serial numbers of servers containing Nvidia chips purchased from Super Micro and installed them in other servers to which they had access. It was noted that in some instances, smugglers even altered the serial numbers in the servers' operating systems. Dell stated that the company requires its distributors and vendors to comply with all applicable regulations and export controls.
