Grocery Sales in Japan Surge Over the Past Year

In Japan, the sales of supermarkets, which operate generally 24/7 and widely, experienced an annual increase for the twelfth consecutive month. According to data released by the Japan Franchise Association (JFA), comparable supermarket sales (excluding taxes) rose by 1.6% in November compared to the same month last year, reaching 926.5 billion yen. In the same month last year, sales were at 911.5 billion yen. Total supermarket sales increased by 1.9% year-on-year, amounting to 964.0 billion yen. The number of supermarkets decreased by 0.1% year-on-year, totaling 55,692. The number of visitors to supermarkets increased by 1.2%, reaching 1,288,818 people.
