North Korean Hackers Steal $1.3 Billion While Cybercriminals Swipe $2.2 Billion in Crypto in 2024

According to the latest report prepared by Chainalysis, cybercriminals stole $2.2 billion from various cryptocurrency platforms in 2024. Additionally, $1.3 billion of the illicit funds was stolen by North Korean hackers, representing 61%, which is more than half of the total illicit funds. Chainalysis, a blockchain analytics platform that has been analyzing cryptocurrency flows for several years, stated that 2024 marks the fifth year in the last decade that hackers have stolen more than $1 billion from cryptocurrency firms. The 2024 statistics represent a year-over-year (YoY) increase of 21% compared to the $1.8 billion recorded in 2023. Individual attacks also increased from 282 in 2023 to 303 in 2024, marking a 7% rise.
