Arçelik Reaches the Top in S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment for the Sixth Time

Arçelik (IS:ARCLK) continues to lead the transformation in sustainability. As of November 22, 2024, the company achieved a score of 89 out of 100 in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment, ranking it first among 45 companies in the Durable Household Appliances sector, marking the sixth time it has reached this success. The S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment measures companies' performance in environmental, social, and governance dimensions. Additionally, Arçelik has been listed in the Dow Jones Emerging Markets Index for the eighth consecutive time.

Speaking about the assessment results, CEO Hakan Bulgurlu stated, “We are advancing with determined steps towards a more sustainable future for our planet, society, and business. Maintaining our commitment to sustainability during this period of global challenges and once again achieving a top position in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment makes this accomplishment even more meaningful for us.”

Emphasizing that decarbonization is inevitable in the fight against the climate crisis, Hakan Bulgurlu continued, “Our commitment to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), which encourages companies to set concrete targets to reduce carbon emissions, is ongoing. The new targets and net zero commitment set by our company have been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative according to the scenario of limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C. As part of our goal to become a net-zero emissions company by 2050, we are committed to reducing absolute Scope 1-2 emissions by 42% by 2030 compared to our 2022 baseline, and absolute Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions resulting from product use by 42% within the same timeframe, and by 90% for both absolute Scope 1-2 and absolute Scope 3 emissions by 2050.”

Arçelik has undertaken numerous global projects in the field of sustainability and ranks highly in various indices. By the end of 2023, the company reduced energy consumption per product in its production processes by 25.7% compared to the 2015 baseline. Through 373 energy efficiency projects implemented in 2023, it achieved approximately 95,680 GJ of energy savings, preventing the emission of 6,983 tons of CO2e. By the end of 2023, Arçelik's use of green electricity in production operations reached 64%, and the company aims to increase this to 100% by 2030. At the same time, it aims to contribute to a net-zero future by encouraging its suppliers to use 100% green electricity as well.
