256.4 Million People Traveled by Rail in Just 11 Months

Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu reported that 256.4 million passengers used urban rail systems, High-Speed Trains, regional, and mainline trains between January and November. Minister Uraloğlu stated, "Marmaray served 201 million, Başkentray served 22.1 million, and High-Speed Trains served 11.5 million passengers."

Uraloğlu evaluated the passenger data for rail travel released by TCDD Transportation for the January-November period. He explained, "During this period, Marmaray, Başkentray, Sirkeci-Kazlıçeşme, Halkalı-Bahçeşehir, and Gayrettepe-Istanbul Airport lines, along with High-Speed Trains and regional and mainline trains, served 256.4 million passengers."

Highlighting that urban rail systems provide significant solutions for reducing traffic congestion in metropolitan areas, Uraloğlu emphasized the critical role of Marmaray in this regard. He noted, "Marmaray has accelerated urban transport and increased travel comfort by carrying the public transport burden of our mega city, Istanbul. In November 2024, Marmaray was used by 19 million 315 thousand 901 people for faster and safer transportation. During the 11-month period from January to November, we reached 201 million passengers."

Evaluating the passenger data of Başkentray, which runs through the center of Ankara, Minister Uraloğlu remarked, "We significantly alleviated urban traffic with Başkentray, which connects the east and west of Ankara. The number of passengers on our Sincan-Kayaş line, which operates in integration with High-Speed Trains, is also increasing continuously. In November, Başkentray served 2 million 358 thousand 168 passengers, and in the first 11 months of the year, it served 22.1 million passengers." He also recalled that on November 20, 2024, a record was set with 94 thousand 84 passengers.

Minister Uraloğlu also shared passenger data for urban rail systems used in the January-November period. He stated, "226 million people used the Marmaray, Başkentray, Sirkeci-Kazlıçeşme, and Halkalı-Bahçeşehir lines. Our Gayrettepe-Istanbul Airport line reached 8.8 million. In total, we served 234.8 million passengers on these lines in the first 11 months."

In November, Uraloğlu reported that High-Speed Trains served 1 million 62 thousand 546 passengers. He noted, "We see that our citizens prefer quick, comfortable, and reliable transportation. Our railway investments are yielding results, and we continue our efforts decisively to ensure our people benefit from these services in the most effective way. Our 11.5 million passengers traveled with High-Speed Trains during the January-November period. During this time, a total of 10.1 million passengers used our regional and mainline trains."
