Minimum Wage for 2025 Announced

The minimum wage increase that affects millions of workers in Turkey has been announced. The Minimum Wage Determination Commission reached a decision regarding the minimum wage increase for 2025 at its fourth meeting held at the Ministry of Labor and Social Security. In a surprising move, the commission convened today instead of the previously stated Thursday or Friday, resulting in a 30% increase in the current net minimum wage of 17,002 TL, setting the new minimum wage at 22,104 TL.

What is the minimum wage for 2025? As a result of the meeting held by the Minimum Wage Determination Commission, the net minimum wage for 2025 has been announced as 22,104 TL. Despite Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan indicating that the meeting would take place on Thursday or Friday, the commission unexpectedly gathered today and reached a decision. With this increase, the minimum wage for 2025 has risen by 30% compared to the current situation.

The newly determined minimum wage aims to slightly improve the living conditions of workers while also signifying new economic adjustments for employers. The large number of minimum wage earners in Turkey means that this wage increase will impact a broad segment of the population. This situation indicates that the increase could yield different results for both employees and employers.

How is the minimum wage determined? The process of determining the minimum wage is managed by a 15-member Minimum Wage Determination Commission, which involves five representatives each from workers, employers, and the government. The commission meets at specific dates set in December each year to work on determining the new minimum wage. The commission, headed by one of the members appointed by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, makes its decisions based on the participation of at least 10 members and by majority vote.

In the event of a tie in votes, the side of the president is considered to have the majority, finalizing the minimum wage figure. The process of determining the minimum wage is reassessed annually in line with economic indicators and social needs, and the results are announced to the public.
