Ministry of Trade: $5.2 Billion Worth of Imported Products Inspected with TAREKS

According to the Ministry of Trade, 3.6 million applications for the import of industrial products made to TAREKS in the first 11 months of 2024 were processed through a risk analysis filter, with 12.1% deemed risky subjected to actual inspection.

It was stated that through TAREKS, $5.2 billion worth of imported products were inspected. The statement included: "The prevention of violations of the requirements set forth in our technical legislation in the field of product safety for commercial interests plays a crucial role in preventing unsuitable and unsafe imported products from entering the Turkish market.

To this end, the Foreign Trade Risk-Based Control System (TAREKS) established by the Ministry of Trade ensures that the application, inspection, and permission processes at the import stage are carried out efficiently, and all these procedures within the scope of product safety legislation are continuously monitored online and 24/7.

In this context, the 3.6 million applications for the import of industrial products made to TAREKS in the first 11 months of 2024 were processed through a risk analysis filter, with 12.1% deemed risky subjected to actual inspection.

Approximately $5.2 billion worth of industrial products were inspected, ranging from toys to medical devices, mobile phones to personal protective equipment, and building materials to shoes, leather, and apparel products. As a result of the stringent import inspection policy implemented, entry of products found to be in violation of technical legislation was not allowed in order to protect the health, safety, and finances of our citizens from unsuitable and unsafe products.

We will continue our efforts as the Ministry of Trade to eliminate any gaps at every stage of our product safety system, minimize the number of unsafe/inadequate products, and ensure the protection of our citizens and traders."
