Uzbek Man Confesses to Assassination of Russian General: Moscow

Investing.com -- According to Russia's Investigative Committee, an unidentified Uzbek man has confessed to planting and detonating the bomb that resulted in the death of Russia's Senior General Igor Kurilov. The statement made on Wednesday indicated that the suspect acknowledged being on a mission for Ukrainian intelligence services in Moscow.

The confession was revealed to the public through a video released by the Baza News Agency, a source known for its connections with Russian law enforcement circles. While the conditions under which the confession was made remain unclear, the authenticity of the video has not yet been independently verified.

General Igor Kurilov, head of Russia's nuclear, biological, and chemical protection troops, was assassinated on Tuesday outside an apartment building. The lethal attack was carried out using a bomb hidden inside an electric scooter. Kurilov's assistant also lost his life in the explosion.

Responsibility for the assassination was claimed by Ukraine's SBU Intelligence Service. This makes Kurilov the highest-ranking Russian military official to be assassinated by Ukraine. Ukraine had accused Kurilov of involvement in the use of chemical weapons against Ukrainian soldiers, a claim that was denied by Moscow.

Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, stated that Moscow plans to discuss the assassination during a United Nations Security Council session on December 20. She added that everyone involved in the murder would be found and punished, emphasizing that Moscow would not be intimidated.
