Gazprom Delivers First LNG Shipment to Italy
Gazprom, the Russian energy giant, has delivered its first liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo to Italy from the LNG Portovaya facility in the Baltic Sea. While Russia's pipeline gas shipments to Europe have decreased since 2022 due to military conflicts in Ukraine, maritime LNG shipments are on the rise.
The gas carrier Cool Rover arrived at the FSRU Toscana terminal in Livorno on Tuesday. Gazprom did not respond to a request for comment. In recent years, Russia's Yamal LNG facility has supplied numerous cargoes to Italy.
The small-scale LNG Portovaya facility, with an annual capacity of 1.5 million metric tons, became operational in September 2022. The initial cargoes from the facility were supplied to Turkey, Greece, and China. Gazprom also supplied its first LNG cargo to Spain in March.
Russian LNG exports from January to November increased by 4.7% compared to the previous year, reaching 29.1 million metric tons, with more than half going to Europe.
