Italy Acquires 24 Eurofighter Jets for €7.5 Billion
The Italian Parliament has approved the purchase of 24 Eurofighter jets for 7.47 billion euros ($7.85 billion) for the Italian Air Force. The Italian government indicated its intention to purchase the jets to replace 26 aircraft that will be decommissioned starting in 2028 through a decree issued in July.
Yesterday, the Italian Chamber of Deputies' Defense Committee and the Italian Senate's Foreign Relations Committee voted in favor of the decree, allowing the procurement process to proceed. This move is positive news for the four European defense companies behind the jets' production: BAE Systems, Airbus, Leonardo, and Spanish Indra Sistemas. The decree stipulates that the agreement between the Italian government and the Eurofighter consortium covers the purchase of the new jets and logistical support.
