Minister Uraloğlu: We Are Introducing 3 New Factories to Turkey
The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, announced plans to establish three new factories under Turkey's Rail System Vehicles Inc. (TÜRASAŞ) to enhance the development and production capacity of rail system vehicles. Minister Uraloğlu stated that the foundations for the factories to be built in Eskişehir, Sakarya, and Sivas are included in the 2025-2027 investment program. In Eskişehir, a National Electric Locomotive Manufacturing and Electrical Systems Factory will be established; in Sakarya, a National Electric Train Set Manufacturing and Testing Factory; and in Sivas, a National Rail System Vehicle Parts Manufacturing Factory.
Uraloğlu emphasized that these new factories would increase Turkey's production capacity for rail system vehicles, aiming to reduce external dependencies through domestic and national projects. In addition to enhancing existing production capacity, he pointed out that the new factories would increase the number of modern and domestic vehicles on the railways.
The effort to boost domestic production continues. TÜRASAŞ is the largest representative of Turkey's rail systems manufacturing sector with over 100 years of experience. Minister Uraloğlu reaffirmed their commitment to being the producing power of Turkey. He highlighted that local and national capabilities have been utilized to increase railway vehicles through projects such as the National Freight Wagon, the National Electric Train Set, and the Eskişehir-5000 Electric Mainline Locomotive.
Uraloğlu emphasized that the sustainability of these projects is among their top priorities and that rail system vehicles under TÜRASAŞ should be open to continuous development within the framework of the 2025-2027 investment program. With these steps, Turkey is expected to strengthen its position in railway technology.
TÜRASAŞ is also focusing on energy efficiency. Minister Uraloğlu mentioned that they pay attention to energy efficiency in production processes and work in alignment with the country’s policies to reduce energy intensity. As part of this initiative, plans are underway to establish a solar power plant on the roofs of the factories belonging to the Sivas Regional Directorate.
Through this project aimed at increasing energy efficiency, TÜRASAŞ will transition to a production model that is environmentally friendly and competitive by generating its own electricity through solar power plants installed on factory rooftops. Minister Uraloğlu described this step as a significant move towards environmental sensitivity and efficiency.
