Minimum Wage Determination Commission to Meet for the Second Time
The Minimum Wage Determination Commission will hold its second meeting today as part of its work to determine the minimum wage amount to be implemented in 2025. The process for determining the new minimum wage, which directly concerns approximately 7 million employees and indirectly affects the entire society, continues. The commission, which held its first meeting on December 10, will convene for the second time today at 2:30 PM, hosted by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security.
Following the first meeting, during which both the employee and employer sides expressed their views, the second meeting is expected to involve representatives from the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, the Ministry of Commerce, and the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) sharing economic data and reports with the commission. Following the sharing of economic data, the bargaining process for the minimum wage is anticipated to commence.
"We hope for a fair minimum wage determination," stated the Minister of Labor and Social Security, Vedat Işıkhan, during the opening speech of the first meeting. "In the process of determining the minimum wage, we meticulously evaluate economic indicators. In this context, we aim to analyze in detail economic and social conditions such as the inflation rate, citizens' purchasing power, the needs of the labor market, economic growth, and the protection and increase of employment, with the hope of establishing a fair minimum wage that considers both employee and employer satisfaction."
After the meeting, Ramazan Ağar, Deputy Chairman of TÜRK-İŞ, expressed hopes that the minimum wage will be unanimously determined at a reasonable level. "Our wish is for the minimum wage to be determined unanimously," he stated.
Current minimum wage levels are set at a gross amount of 20,002.50 Turkish Lira per month for a worker, resulting in a net wage of 17,212.00 Turkish Lira after taxes and deductions. The total cost of the minimum wage for an employer amounts to 23,502.94 Turkish Lira for one worker.
