Areda Survey: 40% of Citizens Expect a Minimum Wage Increase Between 25% and 50%
According to a study conducted by Areda Survey with 4,539 participants across Turkey, 40% of citizens expect an increase in the minimum wage between 25% and 50%. The proportion of those who believe that the raise should be 75% or more constitutes 35.6% of the population.
Those who say “the minimum wage should be 75% or more” are predominantly (43.8%) among citizens aged 55 and above. Women have higher expectations for the wage increase compared to men. Here are the expectations of the Turkish public regarding the minimum wage increase for 2025.
“Minimum Wage Should Be Increased By More Than 75%!”
In January 2024, the net minimum wage was increased by 49.11% to 17,002 TL. This increase represented a cumulative rise of 100% compared to the previous year. As we approach the last month of 2024, the minimum wage increase has once again become a topic of discussion in Turkey.
According to the study, 40% of citizens expect an increase in the minimum wage of between 25% and 50%. Meanwhile, 35.6% of participants believe that the minimum wage should be increased by 75% or more. Those who think a raise of between 51% and 74% is necessary make up 17.8% of society, while only 6.6% believe that an increase of less than 25% would be sufficient.
Which age group has the highest increase expectations?
It has been observed that the expectations for the minimum wage increase in 2025 differ between the female and male participants. 47% of women believe that a raise of 75% or more is necessary, while 43.6% of men think the increase should be between 25% and 50%.
Among those who believe the minimum wage increase should be 75% or more, the highest participation comes from those aged 55 and above (43.8%). They are followed by participants aged 35-54 (42.2%), and most of the youth in the 18-34 age group (38.9%) expect an increase of 25% to 50%.
Methodology of the Research
The research, with the participation of 4,539 individuals across Turkey, was conducted using the CAWI technique from quantitative research methods, via “Areda Survey’s Profile-Based Digital Panel” between November 29 and December 2, 2024.
