Boeing to Invest $1 Billion in South Carolina and Boost Employment
Boeing Co. (NYSE: BA) is preparing to make a $1 billion investment aimed at enhancing its presence in Charleston County by improving its infrastructure and adding 500 new job opportunities over the next five years. This expansion from the aviation giant will strengthen the production capacity for the 787 Dreamliner in response to increasing market demand.
The investment will focus on two campuses in North Charleston, where Boeing South Carolina (BSC) plays a significant role in the development and delivery of the 787-8, 787-9, and 787-10 aircraft models. The expansion is expected to support increased production goals, with plans to reach a monthly production target of 10 aircraft by 2026.
This move consolidates Boeing's long-term presence in the region, which began in 2009. Currently, Boeing is a major employer in the area, with over 7,800 people working at its facilities. The expansion will not impact its operations in Orangeburg.
The company's decision to invest further in South Carolina reflects its commitment to the 787 program and the local workforce. Scott Stocker, Vice President of the 787 Program and BSC Site Leader, expressed excitement about the next phase of growth, attributing it to the team's efforts and customer confidence in the aircraft.
Governor Henry McMaster praised the expansion as a reinforcement of South Carolina's status as an aerospace hub, highlighting new job opportunities and the state's business-friendly climate. Secretary of Commerce Harry M. Lightsey III and Charleston County Council Chair Herbert Ravenel Sass III shared this sentiment, celebrating Boeing's ongoing investment and its positive impact on the local economy.
Individuals interested in joining this new chapter at Boeing are encouraged to explore career opportunities on the company's website. The expanded operations are expected to commence in early 2027, marking another significant milestone for Boeing in South Carolina.
