Fidan: We've Reached a Significant Milestone in Resolving Disputes Between Somalia and Ethiopia
Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan noted that an important milestone has been reached in resolving the long-standing disputes between Somalia and Ethiopia.
In a statement made on platform X, Minister Fidan said, "Thanks to the diplomatic efforts made over the past 8 months and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan personally managing the process, Turkey has taken the lead in a historic step that will contribute to stability, peace, and prosperity in the African continent."
Fidan further stated, "Throughout the process, we carefully listened to the sensitivities, priorities, and expectations of both parties. With the contributions of both countries, we produced the Ankara Declaration text that we mutually agreed upon. This joint declaration, which focuses on the future rather than the past, sets out the principles that two friendly countries will build their cooperation upon.
The trust placed in Turkey and the achieved consensus is a strong manifestation of our diplomatic understanding that generates fair and sustainable solutions.
We thank Somalia and Ethiopia for their trust in our mediation and their constructive approaches. We will continue to support the progress of the process and the strengthening of cooperation between the parties."
