Maersk Predicts Global Container Volume Will Increase by 5-7% in 2025

Maersk’s North America Regional President, Charles van der Steene, stated that the company expects a growth of up to 7% in the global container market volume next year, supported by strong demand from the U.S., where a possible port strike and tariffs on foreign goods are on the table. Speaking at the Reuters NEXT conference, van der Steene said, "Overall, we are forecasting growth between 5% and 7%. There is nothing at this stage indicating that it will be otherwise," adding that Houthi attacks on ships in the Red Sea and "resilient" demand from U.S. companies will continue to drive container consumption. The U.S. is Maersk's largest market. In October, Maersk raised its profit forecast for the full year and updated its outlook for container volumes in 2024.
