Rail Traffic Volume in the U.S. Increases by 4.4%

In the week ending December 7, the total volume of rail transportation in the U.S. increased by 4.4% compared to the same week last year. According to data released by the Association of American Railroads (AAR), total rail freight transportation amounted to 520,894 cars. Carloads declined by 1.8% to 224,899 cars, while intermodal freight transportation rose by 9.7% to 295,995 cars. During the same week, the amount of coal transported by rail in the U.S. decreased by 13.0% to 57,764 cars.
