Russia May Launch New Hypersonic Missile in Ukraine
On Wednesday, a U.S. official speaking to Reuters indicated that Russia may soon conduct tests of an experimental hypersonic ballistic missile known as Oreshnik in Ukraine. Despite this potential development, the official stated that the U.S. does not view the Oreshnik as a significant factor that would change the dynamics of the ongoing conflict.
The official emphasized that Russia’s introduction of the Oreshnik missile is seen more as an attempt to intimidate rather than a strategic military advantage. "We believe that the Oreshnik is not a game-changer on the battlefield; rather, it is another of Russia's attempts to terrorize Ukraine, and we assess that it will fail," the official said.
Earlier, according to two senior Ukrainian government sources, Russia had used this new weapon against the city of Dnipro in Ukraine. The use of such advanced weapons has been closely monitored by international observers, raising concerns over the escalation of military technology in the war in Ukraine.
