Japanese Auto Workers to Demand Monthly Wage Increase of 12,000 Yen
In Japan, the Automotive Workers' Union Confederation has set a specific target for wage negotiations for the first time in seven years. Unions representing workers at major Japanese automakers have indicated they will seek a monthly pay increase of 12,000 yen or more during the annual wage negotiations scheduled for next spring. The group decided to reintroduce a real target to serve as a guideline that smaller unions, such as parts manufacturers, can use in their negotiations. This group includes 12 unions, such as the Toyota Motor Workers' Union, representing a total of 784,000 workers. Rengo, Japan's largest labor union group, which encompasses the automotive unions, is also aiming for at least a 5% wage increase in 2025, similar to this year's significant increases.
