IMSD/Küçükoğlu: Our Production Power Gains Increasing Strategic Importance for the Development and Sovereignty of Our Country Every Day
Due to the "Prudence, Investment, and Turkish Goods Week," Tayfun Küçükoğlu, Chairman of the Turkey Association of Construction Materials Producers (Türkiye İMSAD), stated that the success of domestic production in the construction materials industry contributes to both Turkey’s economic development and its sovereignty. Küçükoğlu emphasized that they provide a basis for the healthy conduct of the reconstruction process in the earthquake-affected regions and for ensuring economic sustainability.
In a statement made within the framework of the "Prudence, Investment, and Turkish Goods Week," celebrated annually between December 12 and 18, and also known as Local Goods Week, Küçükoğlu highlighted the importance of domestic production. He noted that the construction materials industry makes significant contributions to the Turkish economy by offering high-quality products at competitive prices in international markets.
"We are a basis for our country's economic sustainability," he remarked, drawing attention to how the success in domestic production also serves the country’s sovereignty. He stated, "Our sector possesses enough production capacity to meet not only our country’s needs but also those of the surrounding geography. With our export performance in 2023, we became the 7th largest exporting country in the world. This success also serves our country's sovereignty. In 2023, we experienced earthquakes that caused significant devastation in 11 provinces. The resources of the country were crucial in healing the wounds of this disaster. Our construction materials industry has proven that it can produce the materials needed for both the reconstruction of the earthquake zone and urban transformation in terms of capacity and quality across all categories. At this point, it has become a basis for our country’s economic sustainability and the healthy execution of the rebuilding process in the earthquake regions. We know that in areas where domestic production is not strong, natural disasters can have effects that undermine the very existence of countries. For the sovereignty of Turkey and the future of our citizens, our sector's domestic production strength acts as an insurance."
Küçükoğlu concluded by stating, "The sustainable production approach in domestic production is gaining more importance every day. We clearly observe that traditional production models will not be sufficient to meet the world's resource needs. Being aware of the danger, we are focusing on the circular economy approach, which we define as the roadmap for sustainability in the construction sector and the building materials industry. This is because the circular economy approach significantly contributes to the conservation of natural resources, the reduction of energy consumption, and the minimization of negative impacts on the environment. Therefore, the circular economy will be one of our most important priorities in the upcoming period. We will carry out special studies to ensure that our sector makes even greater strides in this regard."
