Apple to Introduce Satellite Connectivity in Smartwatches by 2025 - Bloomberg
According to a report, Apple Inc. plans to enhance its technology products by adding satellite connectivity to the Apple Watch series, particularly the Apple Watch Ultra, by 2025. This new feature will allow users to send messages even when cellular or internet connections are unavailable. This initiative follows Apple’s launch of satellite communication capabilities through iPhones in 2022.
The company’s interest in satellite technology was underscored by a significant $1.5 billion investment in satellite service provider Globalstar in November. This move aimed to enhance the satellite communication capabilities of the iPhone.
In addition to satellite connectivity, Apple is also developing a blood pressure monitoring feature for its smartwatch expected to be released within the same timeframe. This addition is part of Apple's strategy to incorporate more health-related functionalities into its devices. In September, Apple launched a new smartwatch model equipped with features capable of detecting long-term health issues, such as sleep apnea, and offering emergency intervention capabilities.
Apple has not commented on these developments.
