China Launches Investigation into Nvidia

The Chinese market regulator has announced that it has launched an investigation into Nvidia on suspicion of violating the country's antitrust laws. The State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) indicated that the U.S. chip maker is suspected of breaching commitments made during the acquisition of Mellanox Technologies Ltd, as outlined in the conditional approval by the regulator in 2020. The investigation follows the U.S.'s recent move to exert pressure on China's semiconductor sector for the third time within three years and impose export restrictions on 140 companies, including chip equipment manufacturers.
