Portugal Plans to Hold Previously Delayed Lithium License Auction in 2025

Forex - The Portuguese government plans to launch the long-delayed lithium exploration license auction in 2025. The government aims to make the country one of the key European suppliers of critical metals for the green transition. In this context, the center-right government that took office in April announced that the international auction for lithium exploration will target six areas in the north and central regions of the country. The previous government had planned an auction in 2018; however, concerns regarding the environmental and social impacts of lithium mining led to delays in the auction.
